Daisuke SHIRABE : Kiyosumishirakawa Guide

“I’d like to transmit the information that enable the people who live in this town to enjoy its neighborhoods more.”

“I was born and grew up in the suburban New Town, so I might have been fascinated by the urban streets that are not overly organized, those streets where the lives of the people can be felt.” It was in 2008 when Daisuke Shirabe moved to Fukagawa, Kiyosumi-shirakawa. The following words of his conveyed his first impression: “There is nothing particular here, but I felt something that is calming.” Little by little, more bars opened where he started to frequent and with whose staff he became familiar..Every time his neighbors increased, his attachment to this town increased.

It was just when he got a break from his work that he began to write about his day-to-day experience and what he saw in town and posted his writing on his blog. That was how it all began. His first posting was as Kiyosumi Shirakawa Guide on April 9, 2011. It introduced the cherry blossoms in full bloom along the Onagi River. Thereafter, he continued to post daily events in town, casual conversations at the stores and regional festivals, etc. It has developed into the media that enjoyed over 4,700 followers for his facebook and over 2,600 followers for his twitter.

The uniqueness of his point of view which is not found in ordinary media is often discussed by his neighbors. What follows are such examples: “The airing of life video on Kiyosumi-shirakawa neighborhood while running the Tokyo Marathon”; “the off-the-beaten-path spots of Fukagawa and Kiyosumi-shirakawa during the fireworks of Sumida River”; “the series that introduced from all kinds of angle the progress of the sacred shrine at the Fukagawa Hachiman Festival”. Moreover, since last year, he has been introducing with Takayuki Shiina on GLASS LAB the unique neighbors of his town and held the “talk event” called “KOTALK”, wanting to increase the number of the carriers of the sacred shrine. In addition, he held events this year to enable people to have the hands-on experience of the current Fukagawa and Kiyosumi-shirakawa, such event as “Art and Craft Beer”. All these events aim to discover ways for the people of this region to enjoy their neighborhoods more.”

“What I love about festivals and events is having the moments when I feel the energy of the residents.” It would be superb, wouldn’t if, if the residents came to have a greater love for their town and to take greater pride in it, so much so that they can tell the people of the world that their town is absolutely cool! ” People cannot wait for his next move on the “City Media” that closely shares the perspectives of the residents.
